Thank you for joining us this summer for the Schumacher Conversation series highlighting past Schumacher Lecturers. Recordings of the Conversations can be viewed for free on our YouTube channel.
George Monbiot of London’s The Guardian will deliver the 40th Annual E. F. Schumacher Lecture on Sunday, October 25, 2020. The title of his talk is Private Sufficiency, Public Luxury: Land is the Key to the Transformation of Society. The virtual event, moderated by Jodie Evans, will take place at 1:00 pm Eastern Daylight Time. Greg Watson will join Jodie and George during the question period following the talk.
Because of illness, Kali Akuno’s E. F. Schumacher Lecture will be postponed to a later date still to be determined.
The 40th Annual Lecture program is dedicated to the topic of land access, the problems generated by a concentration of ownership, and ways of creating a more fair and equitable system. The Schumacher Center’s own response to the inequities in land access is to call for a voluntary gifting of land into regional community land trusts and other forms of Commons management where its use can be allocated through lease agreements in a socially determined manner outside of market forces.
Wishing all good health,
Staff of the Schumacher Center for a New Economics
