24th Annual E. F. Schumacher Lectures

Visionaries Among Us

Oren Lyons, Judy Wicks, and Stephanie Mills spoke at the Annual E. F. Schumacher Lectures on October 23, 2004 at the First Congregational Church of Stockbridge, Massachusetts.

At a time when the citizens of the United States are probing the question of what constitutes a leader, the voice of Oren Lyons, chosen by Clan Mothers as Chief of the Onondaga people, sounded a clear note of authentic leadership for his people and for our time.

Judy Wicks, founder of the White Dog Café and of BALLE as well as a passionate spokesperson for local ownership and local production, described the evolution of her restaurant and how she came to understand that business can be an essential and effective force for community empowerment.

Stephanie Mills, an author and eloquent observer of the natural world, discussed how she turned her fine perception to the economic, peace, and social activist world of Bob Swann.
