Bay Area Community Land Trust is a social justice organization that converts for-profit rental properties into permanently affordable, democratically run, cooperative housing for lower income households in order to foster economic and racial equity.
Partner cooperatives elect resident representatives to the BACLT governing board.
The BACLT leases land they acquire to housing cooperatives who own and managed buildings atop the land. The BACLT partners with existing housing cooperatives, and also organizes and trains new housing cooperatives to take ownership and democratic control over the buildings in which they live.
Member of California Community Land Trust Network, Berkeley Tenant Opportunity to Purchase (TOPA) working groups, the People's Land and Housing Alliance, and East Bay Housing Organizations.
