Peter LaRochelle
Peter is the Schumacher Center’s Local Currencies Program Assistant, where he helps administer the BerkShares local currency system. In this capacity, he oversees day-to-day operations of BerkShares, liaises with program participants, coordinates outreach and public education efforts, and aids with the program’s strategic development. Additionally, Peter supports the Schumacher Center’s research and education of community-based monetary systems. He maintains the Center’s extensive Local Currency Archives, hosts educational programming with area schools, and assists David Bollier’s work with Reinventing the Commons.
Joining the team in the summer of 2025, Peter returned to the Berkshires after graduating from Haverford College with a B.A. in Mathematics and Growth & Structure of Cities. Peter researched local currencies as a tool for economic and community development for one of his senior theses, bringing him to the Schumacher Center with fresh knowledge and enthusiasm for community-based economics.
Outside of work, Peter is a competitive distance runner and enjoys exploring the outdoors across the Berkshires.
