The Cambridge CLT upholds the fundamental principle that housing is a human right, and creates a future where the community maintains collective control of land under its stewardship, and housing is decommodified. Toward that vision, the Cambridge CLT seeks to transfer and divert some property from the market into a community-led non-profit. Through these actions the Cambridge CLT would create and preserve sustainable, permanently affordable homes, promoting stable and inclusive neighborhoods.
The Cambridge Community Land Trust (CLT) is made up of Cambridge tenants and homeowners, activists and concerned residents, collaboratively organizing toward a shared vision. They began as a working group in the Cambridge Housing Justice Coalition (CHJC) in 2021. While they still have a relationship with CHJC, they are now an independent entity.
