Our membership is open to anyone 16 years of age and older and consists of the following three membership categories: (i) Resident-Descendant members and (ii) Descendant members (Resident-Descendant members, together with the Descendant members, collectively the “Voting Members”), and (iii) Supporter members (the “Non-voting Members”). Resident-Descendant and Descendant members must have attended, be the spouse of someone who attended, or be the descendant of someone who attended; the Sam Langford school - once the segregated school in our rural Nova Scotian community. Supporter members are those who support the mission of the Weymouth Falls Community Land Trust, and respect and understand that direct descendants of the community should be prioritized in decision making, while also being supported by the wider community.
Weymouth is a deeply rural village in Nova Scotia that has historically been home to Black settlers, Acadian settlers, and Mi’kmaq peoples. Weymouth Falls specifically is the Black Loyalist settlement, and African Nova Scotians from the region have made noteworthy contributions to the Canadian landscape. The Weymouth Falls Community Land Trust aims to preserve, protect and steward these ancestral lands for community use, and prevent the erasure of community culture.
