Circle Community Land Trust was founded in 2017 to protect and preserve affordable housing in Toronto, particularly the "Scattered Homes" owned by Toronto Community Housing Corporation (TCHC). In 2011, TCHC proposed selling off these homes, but tenants organized to prevent this, leading to the city agreeing to transfer the homes to a non-profit entity. Circle was created to manage this transfer, and in 2022, they officially took ownership of over 600 homes, ensuring their permanent affordability. The organization continues to work on repairs and improvements while maintaining the homes as affordable for current and future tenants.
