Defining CLTs
The traditional community land trust is a regionally-based, open-membership, non-profit organization that acquires land, holds it in trust, and then leases it for housing and other productive purposes such as farming, community appropriate manufacturing, locally-owned retail and office space. CLTs govern on behalf of both the leaseholders and the broader regional community through a tripartite board of directors, elected by the CLT’s membership structure.
Using this directory
This directory’s search filters are designed to help users connect with CLTs that align with their priorities or interests. For instance, by selecting “agriculture” under the “land use type” filter, users can filter for CLTs who use or intend to use land for agriculture. Or, by selecting “democratic structure,” users can find CLTs who emphasize representative community governance.
To view community land trust coalitions, select the "CLT coalition" box.
