Pete Seeger Unreleased Concert Footage

In June of 2004, Pete Seeger attended the Schumacher Center’s three day conference at Bard College “Local Currencies in the 21st Century,” bringing with him a group of friends from his community in Beacon NY. He felt a local currency might be the answer to empowering Beacon’s regional economy.

Pete called the gathering of 350 people from 12 countries “the best conference I ever attended.”

At the request of the event organizer, Chris Lindstrom, Pete agreed with typical generosity to close the weekend with a concert- joined by Aldo Lavaggi on the fiddle and Adam Growald’s band from Vermont.

Along with the rest of the nation we have been thinking about Pete Seeger this past week, remembering his bold activism, his songs, that were the anthems for the peace, civil rights, and anti-nuclear movements of the 1960s, and his courage to stand firm for what he believed was just.

We also remembered his 2004 performance and the unreleased video footage of the concert, still sitting in a box on a top shelf of the Schumacher Center’s Library. Thanks to the work of Daniel Wood, who converted and edited the footage for viewing, we are pleased to share Pete’s concert with you.

You can read a report of the full Local Currencies conference here.  Enjoy, as we have.
